The Center for Arts Management and Technology (CAMT) has its roots in a 1994 graduate student project when a team of students from the Master of Arts Management Program and the Master of Science programs at The H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University proposed a year-long project to investigate the feasibility and usefulness of the emerging World Wide Web as a resource and service tool for arts managers.
CAMT was officially formed in 1996 to provide the proper organizational foundation for these research and service projects. Our mission is to investigate existing and emerging information and communication technology, and stimulate thinking about the practical application of this technology for arts managers. Working to achieve our mission are five dedicated full-time staff members, who have impressive work and education experience combining performing/visual arts disciplines, management and information systems development.
Our unique position at the heart of Carnegie Mellon University, one of the most technologically advanced universities in the world, and our close connection with the Master of Arts Management program allow us to capitalize on the latest technology advancements while staying closely connected to the needs of the artistic community. In the past eight years, CAMT has established its reputation for providing a wide range of services to the arts field. With the University's support, CAMT operates with very low overhead and can heavily subsidize its rates.
